Yobe State Police Command has condemned the attack and murder of two persons in a community in Yobe State over a dispute on farmland. Two other residents of the area were also injured in the invasion of the community by suspected miscreants from a neighbouring village.
Giving an account of the crisis between Zango, Gulani local government area (LGA) and Azere Village in Gujba council, the police said on August 9, 2025, at about 2330 hours, the Bara Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call from the village head of Zango, Gulani LGA of a brutal attack by miscreants from Azere Village in Gujba LGA.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said the recent attack was sparked off by a dispute over farmland, which resulted in the death of Sani Makeri, 40, and Abdullahi Maicitta, 35, both of Zango.
Zango and Azare villages lie between the boundaries of Gujba and Gulani councils.
The police, Abdulkarim said, swiftly responded, evacuated the victims and rushed the injured to a specialist hospital in Damaturu.
In a press statement the command made public on the incident, Abdulkarim said the survivors were receiving treatment, while the perpetrators fled the scene before the operatives arrived there.
He said the command had commenced a manhunt for the assailants.
The police spokesperson said the conflict, which began last year during the farming season, had been escalating despite efforts by the command to investigate and facilitate its resolution through the State Boundary Adjustment Committee.
Meanwhile, the commissioner of police, CP Emmanuel Ado, who condemned the attack, promised that the command would bring the suspects to justice.
