The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of some travellers by suspected sea pirates along the Bonny-Port Harcourt waterway in the state.
The police public relations officer in the state, Grace Iringe-Koko, who disclosed this to our correspondent, however, did not state the number of the travellers abducted.
Iringe-Koko stated that the commissioner of police, Olatunji Disu, has mandated the deputy commissioner of police in charge of operations, Olugbenga Adepoju and the divisional police officers (DPOs) in the area to ensure that victims regain their freedom as soon as possible.
Suspected sea pirates had on Monday morning attacked a passenger boat around the Dutch Island in Okrika local government area of the state and abducted its passengers who were travelling to Bonny from Port Harcourt.
Unconfirmed reports showed that the suspected sea pirates had ten persons on board the boat.
