The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the death of 17 police officers following a terrorist attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, Buni Yadi, in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of May 8, 2026, when terrorists reportedly launched a coordinated assault on the training facility at about 1:15 a.m. from multiple directions.

The affected officers were said to be undergoing specialised operational training at the institution when the attack took place. The Police also confirmed that several personnel of the Nigerian Army lost their lives while repelling the attackers.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, confirmed the development, describing the slain officers as personnel who paid the supreme price in service to the nation.

“The Nigeria Police Force regrettably announces the tragic loss of 17 police officers who paid the supreme price in service to the nation following a terrorist attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, Buni Yadi,” he said.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, described the fallen officers as courageous personnel who demonstrated exceptional patriotism through their participation in advanced counter-terrorism and tactical training programmes.

In a show of solidarity, the Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, visited the training facility on behalf of the Inspector-General, where he commiserated with the Commandant of the School, Brig. Gen. A.C. Enuagu, and other officers.
