The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the tragic incident involving the killing of an aide to Governor Umaru Radda, Sanusi Gyaza, and his first wife.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Sadiq, acknowledged the incident yesterday, stating that the police are actively addressing the situation.
According to reports, the bandits attacked Gyaza’s residence in the Gyaza community of Kankia local government area, resulting in the deaths of Gyaza and his first wife.
The incident occurred late on Friday. The bandits also abducted Gyaza’s second wife during the raid, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
Gyaza was a former chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Kankia LG chapter.
Abubakar Badaru, Governor Radda’s special assistant, told LEADERSHIP that they have yet to receive details of the attack.
This is happening a few hours after a security officer, Aliyu Yahaya, was killed by gunmen who attacked his home in Magamar-Jibia, Katsina State. The attackers also kidnapped his wife, son, and three neighbours.
The incident has caused fear and tension in the area, with residents calling on the government to take immediate action to address the security challenges.
According to a relative of the deceased, Salisu Yahaya, “On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at around 2:00 am, gunmen attacked Aliyu’s home, shooting him dead and burning his body in his room. The family members and neighbours were left in shock and fear as the gunmen carried out their brutal attack.”
Despite Aliyu’s death, the bloodstains on the floor showed his bravery in trying to protect his family and neighbours from the attackers.
A colleague of the deceased security officer, Basiru Muhammad, lamented the loss of his colleague who died in the line of duty, stressing the need for increased security measures to prevent such incidents.
The recent attacks have continued to raise concerns about the escalating insecurity in the state, where kidnappings and killings have become increasingly prevalent.
