Fresh controversy has trailed the arrest of human rights activist and former presidential candidate of AAC, Omoyele Sowore, as his lawyer and fellow rights campaigner, Barrister Deji Adeyanju, has alleged that he was denied access to his client at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.
Adeyanju made the revelation in a Facebook post on Thursday afternoon, writing, “I have been denied access to my client, Omoyele Sowore, at the FCT Command by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of CID.”
Recall that Sowore was earlier arrested at the Federal High Court, Abuja, shortly after meeting with detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, during Thursday’s court session in continuation of the trial of the latter.
In a now-viral video, Sowore was seen embracing Kanu, telling him, “Mazi, you will be out!” while Kanu responded with a smile, “Good to see you.” However, moments later, Sowore posted a live video showing his conversation with men in police uniform and how he was whisked away from the court premises.
As of the time of this report, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) was yet to issue a statement on the reasons behind Sowore’s arrest or his current whereabouts.
