The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has disowned a fake press release circulating online which purportedly announced the commencement of training for 50,000 newly recruited police constables.

The Force, in a disclaimer warned members of the public, particularly applicants participating in the ongoing recruitment exercise, to disregard the document and rely only on verified police communication channels.

The fake statement, titled: “IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu Directs Commencement of Training for 50,000 Newly Recruited Police Constables,” bears the name and designation of the Force public relations officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.

However, the police said the document did not originate from the Nigeria Police Force and was neither issued nor authorised by the Force.

The NPF urged recruitment candidates to exercise caution and avoid acting on information concerning screening, training, recruitment or deployment that is circulated through unauthorised platforms.

According to the police, candidates should obtain authentic updates through the official Police recruitment portal and verified communication channels of the Nigeria Police Force.

The police further disclosed that efforts were already underway to identify the individuals behind the production and circulation of the fake document.

It warned that those found responsible would face appropriate legal action.

The NPF also advised candidates to verify the authenticity of recruitment-related announcements before taking any action, stressing that documents bearing the names, titles or designations of senior Police authorities should not automatically be considered genuine.

The Force reiterated that only announcements formally released through recognised NPF channels should be relied upon in connection with the recruitment exercise.

It urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious recruitment information to the appropriate authorities.
