Police operatives last Monday foiled attempt by seven gunmen who invaded Bangaji village in Alkaleri LGA with the intention of launching attacks and abducting some people in the village.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives in a combined operation with local hunters swung into action and moved to the scene where two of the hoodlums were neutralized while the remaining five escaped to an unknown destination with various degrees of injuries.
The Bauchi Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil said in a statement yesterday in Bauchi that efforts are on top gear to apprehend the remaining accomplices at large.
According to the statement, the state commissioner of police, CP Umar Mamman Sanda has charged the officers to intensify efforts and apprehend the fleeing suspects, revealing that a locally made loaded Dane gun was recovered at the scene of the incident.
In a related development, the police operatives also arrested two suspects, Nasiru Tambaya (20yrs) and Usman Idris (27yrs) all of Dando village in Burra district of Ningi LGA in the state for alleged criminal conspiracy, mischief by fire and attempt to commit culpable homicide.
Wakil disclosed that exhibits recovered from the suspects are Honda motorcycle with engine number JAUDE3097430 and chassis number BLOJA460LN003798 red in colour, as well as Tecno handset, a campus bag, two pasting caps, and one pair of rubber shoes.
Also, on 20th July 2022, one Nasiru Tambaya and his accomplice called one Malam Saddi of Maikwandi village by phone and intimidated him to produce the sum of N300,000 or else they will kill him but he didn’t comply with their demands.
Subsequently, on 23rd July 2022, the two suspects went and set the entire Malam Saddi’s house ablaze which resulted in the loss of properties worth N400,000. He further revealed that the suspects later called Saddi’s brother, Babangida Usman with the same phone number and threatened that they would kill their mother.
Consequently, the victims succumbed to the suspects initial demand by paying N300,000 through Babangida Ibrahim at Borkono road, Burra village. He said all the suspects have confessed to the crime.
