The Nigeria Police Force has uncovered a plot to set ablaze the Kano Government House by unknown individuals, with the backdrop of the ongoing gubernatorial appeal at the Supreme Court between the NNPP and the APC.

Kano’s Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, revealed this during a meeting with state media executives, on Wednesday just a day before the Supreme Court hearing in Abuja.

Gumel urged media professionals to accurately inform the public, stressing that the legal proceedings are situated in the nation’s capital, not within the state itself.

“Honestly, the peaceful coexistence we have been enjoying in the state had severally been attempted to be disrupted by some criminals, but on most occasions, we have been able to prevent the situation,” Gumel declared.

Highlighting law enforcement’s proactive stance, Gumel shared that arrests have been made, targeting individuals masquerading as political protesters engaging in looting.

“I am using this medium to appeal to the politicians to abide by the peace agreement they signed in the interest of the people so as not to create chaos in the state,” Gumel stressed.

In addition, he provided positive insights into the rehabilitation of repentant criminals, with over 630 individuals voluntarily surrendering to the police. These individuals are undergoing rehabilitation efforts to reintegrate them into society as law-abiding citizens.

“Out of the first set of over 50 repentant criminals we have rehabilitated, only one has gone back to crime as the others are genuinely gainfully useful to the society. This we are able to confirm because we monitor their activities,” Gumel assured.

As Kano approaches the crucial Supreme Court hearing, Gumel’s appeal for calm and adherence to the rule of law underscores the collective desire for a peaceful resolution amidst the heightened political tension.
