Police Go After 2 Catholic Nuns’ Kidnappers

The Anambra state police command has deployed a team of operatives to rescue two Catholic nuns kidnapped in the state.

The Catholic nuns were kidnapped in the evening of Tuesday while returning from a vocational service meeting at Ogboji, Orumb-North local government area of the state.

Confirming the deployment of a team of police operatives to rescue the kidnapped Catholic nuns and arrest their kidnappers to make sure the hoodlums faced the full weight of the law, public relations officer of the Anambra state police command, superintendent of police, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the state commissioner of police, CP Nnaghe Itam along with deputy of police in charge of operations in the state police command have visited the scene of where the nuns were kidnapped for on the spot assessment of the incident.

“Police-led Joint Operation is already ongoing for the possible rescue of two catholic nuns allegedly kidnapped along Ufuma Road, Orumba North Local Government.

“The sad incident occurred on the evening of yesterday, 7/1/2025, when the nuns were returning from a vocational service meeting in Ogboji.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, alongside the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, visited the scene for a spot assessment and stated that the command is already working with some clues for the possible arrest of the suspects and rescue of the victims”, Ikenga stated further in a statement late evening of Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the state police command has said that it is still making efforts to rescue the Labour Party (LP) member of the state House of Assembly representing Onitsha North 1 constituency, Hon. Justice Azuka, who was kidnapped on Christmas Eve while returning home for the Christmas celebrations somewhere at Ugwunakpamkpa, Inland Town, Onitsha by a gang of hoodlums.

The police command said that its operatives had already recovered the lawmaker’s vehicle, which he was driving in when he was kidnapped.

The state police command said the lawmaker’s vehicle was recovered somewhere in Onitsha’s popular Upper Iweka area.
