Police in Niger State have arrested 32 thuggery suspects including an inmate of Minna Correctional centre who escaped during the last jail break in the state .
The Command Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Wasiu Abiodun said police operatives attached to ‘A’ Division Minna led by the DPO carried out sting operations and raided criminal hideouts in Minna the state capital to make the arrest.
He said the areas raided were Limawa, Makera, Kwangila, Central Roundabout, Railway Station, Ogbomosho Street, Abdulsalam Quarters, PZ Area, Angwan-Kaje, New-Market, Sabon-Gari, Kuta Road, and Angwan-Sarki, Minna.
“In the course of these operations, a total number of thirty-two suspected miscreants were arrested in these locations, including one Jemilu Usman 19 years old a.k.a Pabore who has been on the Police wanted list for attempted culpable homicide in Tayi village, Minna.
Another kingpin arrested is Abdulraheem Tasiu a.k.a Tsoho Papalo of PZ area, and one Abdulmajid Abubakar 25 years old a.k.a Gaye of Angwan-Daji, Minna who recently returned from the Correctional Centre after serving a jail term and he was arrested with a cutlass,” he said.
He added that “One Mohammed Yahaya 35yrs of Angwan-Sarki was also arrested and a preliminary investigation revealed that he was among the escaped inmates from the Correctional Centre during the last jail break, having been convicted for an offence of homicide”.
The PPRO said exhibits recovered from the suspects included several wraps of suspected cannabis, shisha pots, cutlasses, and other illicit substances.
He said the raid of criminal hideouts was part of the commissioner of police’s desire to wage war against criminals and criminality in the state.
