JUST-IN: Police Inspector Murdered In Imo

A Police Inspector, Augustine Ukegbu, has been killed by gunmen in his village, Umuoshike Ogbor in Aboh Mbaise local government area of Imo State.

Ukegbu, an operative of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) department of the Police, was attached to Orji Police Division in the state had travelled to his village with his family for Easter celebrations.

Sources told LEADERSHIP that the late cop was earlier kidnapped by gunmen upon arrival into the village and whisked away, only to be discovered dead in a bush along Mbutu in the Aboh Mbaise local government area.

The source, who pleaded anonymity said: “Inspector Augustine Ukegbu was serving at Orji Police Divisional headquarters and came home to celebrate the Easter with his family at Aboh Mbaise. But gunmen arrived his house on April 8th at about 11pm and whisked him away in a Lexus jeep.

“We immediately rushed and reported the incident at the Oke Ovoro police division. We later discovered his corpse inside the bush here in Mbutu including the jeep abandoned along Mbutu bush.”

Police spokesperson for Imo State Command, Henry Okoye, confirmed the policeman’s death, saying “Yes, it is true. We are investigating, it was a case of abduction, we will communicate the full details when we conclude it.”
