The operations, which commenced over the weekend, were part of ongoing efforts to dismantle violent gangs and restore peace in Kano metropolis.

This was revealed in a press release signed by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO), DSP Abdullahi Hussaini, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police convened a high-level security summit on June 14, 2025, with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to review the growing threat of thuggery and chart new strategies to eliminate it.

During the meeting, CP Bakori issued firm directives for intelligence-led and aggressive offensives targeting the strongholds of suspected gang members.

The Command’s new strategy included “Intelligence-Led Raid Operations: The CP directed the officers to conduct intelligence-led operations in identified enclaves and apprehend the thugs; thereby taking the fight to their domains.

“Community Engagement: The CP directs robust community-oriented policing strategy through engagement with community leaders and residents to gather feedback and bespoke suggestions on how to improve security and safety.

“Collaboration: The Command will continue to collaborate with other security agencies and Stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach to combating thuggery and related crimes.”

CP Bakori assured residents that the Command is fully committed to ensuring public safety, stating that Kano residents “will continue to enjoy uninterrupted peace and sleep with their two eyes closed.”

The Police Command also called on the public to support the initiative by reporting suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.

LEADERSHIP reports a recent surge in violent thuggery activities in Kano State, especially within the metropolis, often resulting in deaths and grievous injuries among gang members and innocent members of the public.
