The Rivera State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a notorious cult leader, Precious Adiele, in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt, the State capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
She said the Commissioner of Police, Okon Effiong, has deployed tactical teams to Gambia Street, in the Mile Two area of Diobu, to ensure no further breakdown of law and order.
The PPRO said: “The CP has deployed tactical teams to ensure no further breakdown of law and order and arrest other members of the cult group meanwhile investigation ongoing.”
Recall that two persons, including a suspected cult leader and an elderly man were killed on Saturday night when suspected members of a cult group, Bar Beach Deck of Iceland launched attacks on suspected members of a rival group, Castro House of Deygbam Cult, in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
LEADERSHIP gathered that trouble started when members of the Deygbam ambushed the leader of the Bar Beach Iceland, simply identified as Precious around Beribabou axis of Gambia Street in Mile Two area of Diobu and gave him several matchetes cuts, which led to his death.
It was also gathered that after killing Precious, the Deygbam Cult members stormed a building in the area where another member of Bar Beach Iceland cult group was believed to be residing but met his absence.
Apparently infuriated that they did not meet their second target at home, LEADERSHIP further gathered that the cultists were said to have set the building ablaze, leading to the burning into ashes of an elderly man who was trapped in the building by the inferno.
Sources in the area told our correspondent that the rampaging cultists fled the area before the arrival of men of the Nigerian Police Force from the Mile One Divisional Police headquarters and other formations.
