Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a 62-year-old man, Tahir Ahmed, for allegedly mass-producing fake naira notes in Bauchi.

LEADERSHIP gathered that Ahmed was arrested in possession of the alleged counterfeit naira notes amounting to over N200,000.

The suspect was arrested by the police after he reportedly used ritual to turn plain paper into new N1,000 notes while on board a commercial vehicle from Tilden-Fulani to Bauchi.

Spokesperson of Command, SP Ahmed Wakil while confirming the arrest to reporters in a statement on Tuesday, said, “Upon reaching Bauchi metropolis, around Yandoka Road, a Good Samaritan reported to a police station about Ahmed’s tricks.”

Wakil said the suspect reportedly admitted to the offence, adding that investigations were ongoing to uncover further details.

The police spokesman further said that the Command had requested the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to conduct a forensic analysis on the notes to determine their authenticity.
