Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have neutralised three suspected kidnappers and recovered a ₦5 million ransom following the abduction of two women in the state.
The development was disclosed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, in a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Friday.
According to him, the operation highlighted the importance of promptly alerting law enforcement authorities in emergency situations.
“This is one of the reasons why it is important to quickly alert the police when in distress,” Edafe stated.
He explained that the victims had been kidnapped and a ransom of ₦5 million was paid to secure their release before police operatives swung into action.
“Two ladies were kidnapped and a ransom of ₦5,000,000 was collected,” he said.
SP Edafe noted that operatives of the Delta State Anti-Kidnapping Unit acted swiftly on credible intelligence, trailing the suspects to their hideout after confirming the victims were safe.
“Acting on available information, operatives of Delta State Anti-Kidnapping Unit trailed the suspects and after ensuring the victims are safe, swooped in on them,” he added.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that the operation led to a gun battle between the suspects and the police team.
“They engaged them in a gun duel, three of the suspected kidnappers died as a result of the gunshot injuries sustained,” Edafe said.
He added that one AK-47 rifle and the ransom money were recovered during the operation.
In a show of accountability, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, personally returned the recovered ransom to the victims.
“CP Yemi Oyenisi personally handed the money to the victims,” SP Edafe added.
