The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Bauchi State Chapter, has commemorated the 2026 International Widows Day with a renewed commitment to supporting widows of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Speaking at the event yesterday, the Chairperson of POWA Bauchi State Chapter, Hajiya Fatimah Sani-Omolori, said the celebration forms part of the association’s welfare mandate to care for the families of officers who paid the supreme sacrifice while serving the nation.
As part of the commemoration, empowerment packages were presented to widows of fallen police officers across the Bauchi State Command.
Mrs Sani-Omolori said the gesture was intended to provide relief to the beneficiaries and to honour the sacrifices of their late husbands in maintaining peace and security in Bauchi State and Nigeria.
She reaffirmed POWA’s commitment to improving the lives of police widows through skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes aimed at promoting self-reliance and economic independence.
The chairperson also commended the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, for his unwavering support for POWA’s programmes and his commitment to the welfare of police personnel and their families.
She further expressed appreciation to the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Wunti Alheri Foundation and Fidelity Bank Plc for sponsoring the programme and supporting the association’s humanitarian efforts.
Items distributed to the beneficiaries included bags of rice and sugar, cartons of vegetable oil, Point of Sale (POS) machines and mats.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the LAPOWA Coordinator, Mrs Lois Maje Bala, thanked POWA, its partners and the Bauchi State Police Command for remembering the widows, describing the intervention as timely, encouraging and impactful.
The event also featured a lecture on the 2026 International Widows Day theme delivered by Mrs Abigail Ardo, followed by an interactive question-and-answer session. Goodwill messages were presented by representatives of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Wunti Alheri Foundation and Fidelity Bank Plc.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Musa M. Bulus commended POWA for its sustained support to police families and assured that the Bauchi State Police Command would continue collaborating with the association to ensure that no widow of a fallen officer is left behind.
