The Kogi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a primary schoolteacher who died after being allegedly assaulted for disciplining a pupil in Olamaboro Local Government Area of the State.

The command said the case, which is being investigated as culpable homicide, was reported at the Olamaboro Divisional Police Headquarters on June 25, 2026.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Oyiza Salisu Afusat.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that on June 18, one Abdullahi Ishaka, accompanied by two women, allegedly stormed Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, where they attacked a teacher, Maryam Usman, for disciplining a pupil.

The statement said the 30-year-old female teacher sustained severe injuries during the assault and was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko-Ojo Hospital in Okpo for further medical care.

According to the Police, the victim, however, later succumbed to her injuries on June 25.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that on 18th June, 2026, one Abdullahi Ishaka, accompanied by two women, went to Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, where they assaulted a staff member, Maryam Usman, aged 30, for disciplining a pupil.

“The victim sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko-Ojo Hospital, Okpo, for further medical attention. She, however, passed away on 25th June, 2026,” the statement read.

Afusat said police operatives visited both the scene of the incident and the deceased’s residence after the matter was reported, where necessary documentation was carried out.

She added that arrangements were underway to move the deceased’s body to the General Hospital in Ankpa for a medical examination and autopsy.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the suspects fled before officers arrived at the scene, but assured that efforts were ongoing to track and arrest them.
