The Kano State Police Command has opened an investigation into the chairperson of Tudun Wada local government area, Sa’adatu Salisu, following allegations that she led thugs to demolish a blacksmith shop, during which one person was shot and several others injured.
The workers of Tasarrufi General Enterprise alleged that on August 28, Ms Sa’adatu Salisu stormed their facility with armed men and ordered the demolition of their workshop, despite the site not being listed among structures marked for removal to pave way for a drainage project.
The workers told journalists that the local government chairperson, who is also the chairman of the State’s chapter of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), ordered her police orderly to open fire, leaving their manager injured.
The shop owner, Suwidi Umar, said the destruction had rendered over 60 workers jobless, adding that the facility was certified in 1990 and lies several metres away from the drainage line.
Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed the development, saying both Ms. Salisu and her orderly had been summoned. “All the witnesses and the suspect have been invited. The orderly has also been recalled to give account of the matter,” he stated.
