The Delta State police command has raided a drug syndicate and recovered large quantities of contraband drugs.
The breakthrough came when men of the Ughelli Area Command embarked on a raid of suspected criminal hideouts in a major campaign against the use of illicit drugs and their subsequent effects on youths in the society.
The operatives trailed and arrested a 52-year-old drug baron named Egbule Isioma who operates a chemist store near Afisere town hall alongside three of her apprentices – Mercy John, Favour John Amarachi Ngozi.
The suspects were said to have led the operatives to her house at Edile Street Afisere where a search warrant was executed.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright, confirmed that, “During the search, 355 bottles of CSC Codeine, 57 rolls of 50MG Tramadol capsules, 335 rolls of 100mg Tramadol capsules, 33 rolls of 200mg Super Royal, 7 backwoods, 540 sachets of Swinol capsules and 16 cups of Canadian liquid cannabis were recovered.
“Investigation further revealed that the suspect is a major dealer in illicit drugs in Ughelli and its environs.”
According to him, the raid was made possible through credible intelligence in relation to the activities of some persons known for drug peddling within Afisere/Ughelli towns.
