The Kano State Police Command has recovered two stolen vehicles using the Nigeria Police Force’s Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) platform, a tool designed to curb car theft across the country.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the first theft occurred on January 1, 2025, when “unidentified individuals approached a car dealer in Zuba, Abuja at his car stand expressing interest in a Toyota Corolla 2014 model.

“During a test drive, the two suspects brandished a pistol, threatened the victim, and subsequently fled with the vehicle including original documents and two keys.”

Similarly, on January 4, 2025, “a Mercedes Benz C300 parked in front of Luxirian Event Centre in Nassarawa GRA, Kano owned by a resident of Hadejia Road, Kano was reported stolen.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Garba directed detectives from the Anti-Car Theft Unit to track the vehicles.

“Between 10th and 15th January 2025, the team after obtaining relevant information from the e-CMR platform, successfully recovered the two stolen motor vehicles behind old Airport in Bauchi State and Shagari Quarters, Kano respectively,” the PPRO said.

CP Garba commended the detectives for their efforts and urged the public to take advantage of the e-CMR platform, which allows vehicle owners to register their cars online.

He stated that the platform is instrumental in “checkmating vehicle theft-related cases.”

Kiyawa said investigations into the incidents are ongoing as the Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and combating crime within the State.
