Yobe State Police Command has arrested suspects for motorcycle theft and recovered stolen property through intelligence-led operations at Garin Alkali, Bursari local government area on May 17, 2027.

In a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, it said operatives attached to the Garin Alkali Division arrested one Abubakar Haruna, 30 years old, of Lafiya Lamurde, Adamawa State who specialised in motorcycle theft in markets and public gatherings.

According to the statement, the suspect allegedly snatched a red Boxer motorcycle with registration number MKD 330 QF Benue State from a victim on the outskirts of Garin Alkali.

The statement said that following the incident, sympathisers and members of the public pursued the suspect in an attempt to apprehend him, the suspect rode recklessly and knocked down one Sabo Yahaya, 72 years old, of Garin Goje Village, Jakusko LGA.

As a result, the victim sustained a fracture on his left leg and was initially rushed to Specialist Hospital Gashua before being referred to FMC Nguru for further medical attention. The suspect was rescued from an attempted mob action and is currently undergoing investigation.

In another development, police operatives of Garin Alkali Division acting on a distress call have arrested Musa Baba, 38 years old of Jumbam Village, Tarmuwa LGA who had earlier been placed on a police watch list for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting victims through deceptive means.

Investigations revealed that the suspect usually carried bundles of cut papers wrapped in polythene bags and disguised them as money notes to deceive victims at marketplaces. He had earlier fraudulently obtained the sum of N110,000 from a teenager using the same method and was arrested while attempting to perpetrate a similar act.

It added that, during the interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, while exhibits including bundles of cut papers arranged to resemble currency notes, were recovered from his possession, noting that an investigation has commenced with a view to prosecuting the suspect.

Similarly, the Garin Alkali Division also apprehended one Usman Isa, 28 years old, of Yusufari LGA who specialises in cattle rustling, and was arrested in possession of a suspected stolen cow at Garin Alkali market.
