Police Rescue 4 Kidnap Victims After Gunmen Murdered Cleric In Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command said it has rescued four kidnapped victims who were taken hostage by armed gunmen Sunday morning, at Nde 3 Corner along Ikom-Ogoja-Katsina-Ala highway by armed gunmen.

Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State, SP Irene Ugbo, revealed this to Journalists on Monday in Calabar through a telephone conversation.

Ugbo stated that about four kidnap victims were rescued by the Command on Monday, April 29, 2024.

The spokesperson stressed that the cleric was murdered by the armed gunmen during the attack while another victim is currently receiving treatment in one of the medical facility in Ikom.

“Yes, they were more than that number, four have been rescued. We are aware that one of the pastors died and one is receiving treatment.

“So we are on it. That is the discussion that the CP and his management team just had now. It is the Ikom Area that we are focusing on now.” Ugbo stated.

The PPRO averred that the incident has caused panic in the area as motorists and commuters plying Ikom, Etung, Boki, Ogoja, Yala, Bekwarra, Obanliku Odudu have become scared as a result of the incident.

Ugbo maintained that motorists traveling from Cross River Central Senatorial district to the northern part of the state became so scared because of sporadic shootings from the incident.

One of the residents who spoke in anonymity with LEADERSHIP stated that the attack began Sunday morning around 6:30 am and 7:00am.
