Men of the Kwara State Police Command have rescued five persons abducted last Thursday by gunmen in Isin local government area of the state.
The spokesman of the Police in the state, Okasanmi Ajayi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday morning.
Ajayi said that men of the Command’s Anti-kidnapping Unit stationed within the Isin axis, local hunters and vigilantes gave the abductors a hot chase, which led to the abandonment of the Siena bus conveying the victims at the time of incident, and rescued one of the kidnap victim, Oke Olatunji.
“Also, the special tactical team of the Command on search and rescue operation in the forests within Isin led by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi, on Saturday rescued another victim identified as Femi Ajayi, who sustained bullet injury and was taken to the health centre in Isanlu-Isin, where he is currently receiving medical attention,” he said.
The police spokesman added that, “the remaining three kidnapped victims were released late last night (Saturday) by their abductors as a result of the pressure mounted by the command’s tactical team and the vigilantes led by CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi.”
Ajayi said that the state police commissioner held a meeting with vigilantes, hunters and other community leaders in Isanlu-Isin where issues affecting the area were discussed and strategies and plans were initiated to forestall any further attack on the community.
He added that efforts were on to arrest the suspected kidnappers.
Meanwhile, CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi inspected the police post in the town and promised to increase the number of officers in the station to further enhance the safety and security of the people in the area,” Ajayi added.
