The commissioner of police in Benue State, Wale Abass, has asked party executives to organise training sessions for their members and educate them on electoral laws and rules of engagement as specified in the 2022 Electoral Act and other extant laws.
The CP who stated this during a meeting held in his office with political party executives in the state advised all political parties on the need to embark on issues-based campaigns rather than engaging in hate speeches that will cause unnecessary tension among them.
A statement by the command spokesperson quoted the CP as requesting each political party to draw up itineraries for campaigns and submit the same to the police for proper security arrangements and to avoid clashes. He said the command has already commenced training for officers in preparation for the electoral process.
Abass also reiterated his commitment to ensure hitch free campaign period and secured environment for free and fair elections. He said, “After a successful deliberation, the meeting came to an end with the signing of a peace accord by all the party executives.”
