Operatives of the Akwa Ibom Police Command have smashed armed robbery syndicate, arresting two suspects in separate operations at Ikot Ekpene and Uyo local government areas of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Akwa Ibom Command, DSP TImfon John, on Sunday, explained that the feats were achieved by quick response of the operatives to emergency situations.
“On September 2, 2025, at approximately 0012 hours, operatives of the Command received a distress call reporting an attempted armed robbery in Abiakpo Ntak Inyang Village, Ikot Ekpene LGA.
“The report, received from a concerned citizen, stated that two residents, (names withheld) were under attack by two armed individuals wielding a jackknife and a machete.
“A Police patrol team was immediately dispatched to the scene. The officers quickly apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Ubong Victor Elijah, a native of Ikwen village in Obot Akara LGA, who resides in Ikot Obong Edong village.
“The second suspect, known only as Wisdom, fled the scene and remains at large.During the arrest, a black face mask and two jackknives were recovered. The victims, who sustained multiple stab wounds, were rushed to the hospital for medical attention,” John said.
In the same vein, police operatives apprehended a suspected car thief with assorted motor spare parts of dismantled vehicles.
“On Monday, August 26, 2025, at approximately 11am, operatives, while on routine patrol along Abak Road in Uyo, intercepted a Toyota Corolla with registration number BRS 03 AJ.
“The driver, identified as Ugochukwu Igwe, was stopped and a search of the vehicle was conducted. The search led to the recovery of several suspected stolen items, including two truck batteries, seven motor batteries, several pieces of motor catalysts, a motor condenser and alternator. Other valuable properties were also recovered from the vehicle,” she stated.
DSP John solicited for public intelligence to curb crimes in the State, vowing the suspects currently being held in the Police facility, would soon face prosecution and appropriate sanctions where necessary.
