Authorities of the Kano State Police Command have warned groups and individuals against disrupting the prevailing peace in the state.

Addressing newsmen in Kano yesterday, the police commissioner, Mohammed Usain Gumel, said available information showed that some individuals were hell bent on creating political chaos in the state.

He said the police would not deviate from its primary responsibility of ensuring security of lives and property of citizens in the state.

Gumel called on members of the public to remain calm and go about their daily businesses without any fear and also endeavour to report any suspicious movements by groups or individuals.

He said there were individuals who hide under the guise of public prayers that end up disrupting the public peace.

He added that there are also those who claim they belong to certain market organisations planning to stage protests that were also uncovered and neutralised, noting, however, that the actual market traders dissociated themselves from that plot and declared support for the police in its work.

“Already, the leadership of the police command is in touch with the leadership of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC): and both have reassured us that they stand on the already signed peace accord. They also told us that their political parties will dissociate from any person, or group of persons, who are planning to cause trouble in the state through protest or unguided statements that are capable of causing chaos.

“On this note, let me assure the good people of Kano State that the security of their lives and property remain our paramount goal. They should remain calm and move about with their lawful business without fear,” he said.

“Moreover, let me also state that I am not only grateful to all the law-abiding good people of the state but also to inform them that their prayers in this direction, support, cooperation and understanding are well acknowledged. I also wish to emphasize the commitment of the Police Command to protection of lives and property of all residents of the state,” the CP added.
