Police To Deploy Over 17,000 Officers For Osun Gov Election

More than 17,000 policemen are to be deployed to provide security for the 15 August 2026 governorship election in Osun State, LEADERSHIP Weekend has learnt.

The police officers are to be drawn from more than 20 states across the country.

A police wireless from the NIGPOL DOPS ABUJA to the affected states, from which the police officers are to be drawn, confirmed this.

The wireless message was signed by NIGPOLS ABUJA and was addressed to DFA/DOPS/DLS/FCID/DR&P/DICT/FORCESE/AIGZONS 2 LAGOS/17 AKURE/DEPPOL IKEJA/ORJI-RIVER/COMPOLS ILORIN/LOKOJA/OSOGBO/AKURE/ABEOKUTA/IKEJA/BENIN-CITY/AWKA/ENUGU/FCT/IBADAN/ASABA/LAFIA/MINNA/MAKURDI/OWERRI/PORT-HARCOURT/YENAGOA/UYO/UMUAHIA/CALABAR/ABAKALIKI/KADUNA/DETOLENUGU INGENPOLSEC/AIGZONS1’7/COMPOLS EPM&E/Abuja.

It stated that the deployment of the affected officers had been approved by the Inspector General of Police for the national exercise and that each police command must release the officers for it.
The Police wireless indicated that 330, 320 and 600 policemen are to be deployed to Atakuma East, Atakumosa West and Ayedaade local government areas, respectively. These policemen are to be mobilised from the Kogi and Edo State Police Commands.

Also, Ayedire, Boluwaduro, Boripe and Ede North are to be manned by 500, 500, 500 and 600 policemen, respectively, drawn from the Cross River, Ebonyi, Benue and Nasarawa police commands.

The wireless also reported that Ede South, Ejigbo Olaoluwa, Ife Central, Ife East and Ifelodun are local government areas to receive 600, 550, 250, 750 and 600 police personnel, respectively. These officers are to be drawn from the Anambra, Lagos, and Delta State Police Commands.

Ife North, Ife South, Ifedayo, Ila, Ilesa East, and Ilesa West are to receive 750, 750, 250, 500, 600, and 600 policemen each. The officers are to come from the Ogun, Zone 17, Akure, Imo State, Ondo State, and Bayelsa State police commands.

Irepodun, Irewole, Isokan, Iwo, Oboku, and Oriade are to receive 600, 600, 500, 1000, 500, and 500 policemen each for the election. These policemen are to be drawn from the police commands of Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Oyo, and Kwara states.

There are 30 local government areas in the state.
