Police Uncover, Neutralise IED In Borno

Operatives of the Borno State Police Command, on Tuesday, discovered and neutralised an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) concealed in a backpack at Layin Logo, Moduganari area of Maiduguri, the State capital.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Nahum Daso, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the bag was recovered at about 0900 hours during routine surveillance and foot patrol.

He said, “On 5th May, 2026, at about 0900hrs, during routine surveillance and foot patrol, operatives of the Borno State Police Command recovered a suspicious bag abandoned at Layin Logo, Moduganari area of Maiduguri.”

According to him, “the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit Base 13 was immediately deployed to the scene, where an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) concealed in the bag was identified and safely detonated in line with standard operating procedures.”

Daso called on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons or objects to the nearest police station.

He added that investigations were ongoing and assured that further details would be provided in due course.

LEADERSHIP recalls that in December 2025, operatives of the Borno State Police Command defused an unexploded ordnance planted under a telecommunication mast at Chuskon, Federal Low Cost Area of Maiduguri.

A statement by ASP Nahum Daso at the time indicated that the EOD-CBRN Base 13 team made the recovery following a report received by the Divisional Police Officer of ITE Police Division.
