Police Warn Against Protest, Violence In Lagos

Lagos State Police Command has told the residents that the state remains peaceful and secure despite reports of protests in other parts of the country related to the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow movement.

The commissioner of police, Olohundare Jimoh, gave the assurance yesterday in Ikeja during a “Show of Force” operation meant to reinforce the command’s readiness to maintain law and order across the state.

“We want residents to know that they are safe and can go about their lawful businesses without fear. We have made adequate deployments to all known gathering points used by protesters in the past,” he said.

The CP explained that the tactical exercise was also aimed at deterring individuals who might attempt to disrupt public peace under the guise of protest.

Jimoh noted that deployments had been made to strategic locations previously identified as flashpoints, including the Lekki Toll Gate, Ojota, Maryland, and Gani Fawehinmi Park.

Acknowledging the right to peaceful protest, Jimoh emphasised that any protest that turns violent would be treated as a criminal act.

“Protests are legitimate everywhere in the world, but once they turn violent or disrupt the peace, they become a criminal act. We will not allow anyone to disturb the peace of law-abiding citizens,” he said.

Jimoh further stated that all police formations across Lagos have been instructed to submit situation reports every 15 minutes to enable real-time monitoring and swift response to any development.

“As of the time of this briefing, there have been no reports of unrest, traffic disruption, or violence in any part of the state,” he said.

He added that areas such as Lekki, Ojota, and Maryland remain calm, with officers maintaining a visible presence to ensure continued peace.

“Lagos is safe, peaceful, and free of any form of protest. We will continue to patrol and monitor all areas to sustain the peace residents are enjoying,” Jimoh said.
