Residents yesterday gathered at the Jigawa State police command to witness the presentation of cheques of over N41.5 million to widows and families of fallen police officers from the command.

Almost everyone at the command shed tears when the widows began narrating their conditions and how the financial assistance could make a difference in their lives and that of their children.

At the event, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmmed Abdullahi said, a total of 24 cheques would be presented to the families of the fallen officers.

He explained that the money was approved by the Inspector-General of Police under the Police Group Life Assurance Scheme designed to enhance the welfare of the officers including the deceased.

He told the beneficiaries that the assistance was just a token and not a compensation for the lost adding that it is to show a sense of belonging and an appreciation for the sacrifice made by their sons, fathers and husbands.
