The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the federal government over unpaid salary arrears and other unresolved welfare matters.

The ultimatum followed the association’s 77th General Executive Council meeting held at the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Danbatta, Kano State.

In a communiqué signed by the national president, Comrade Philip Adebanjo Ogunsipe and the national secretary, Comrade Shehu Nura Gaya made available to newsmen yesterday, the union accused the government of failing to honour agreements and neglecting the polytechnic sector.

Among the grievances highlighted are the non-release of the new schemes and conditions of service, delayed constitution of the renegotiation committee for the 2010 agreement, non-release of the 2023–2025 NEEDS Assessment fund, and non-payment of various arrears including promotion arrears, the 25/35 percent salary review arrears, and wage awards. The union also demanded full implementation of the new minimum wage.

The council said it was dissatisfied with what it described as government’s insincerity in addressing the long-standing issues despite several efforts to resolve them through dialogue.

It warned that failure to act within the ultimatum period would leave the association with no choice but to shut down services in polytechnics nationwide.

“After exhausting our patience on these items, council observed with great displeasure the insincerity of government in keeping to previous agreements or prioritising the education sector.

“Based on the above, the union demands immediate action on the listed issues within 21 days beginning from 27th August, 2025, or we will be left with no option than to withdraw our services across the nation,” the communiqué stated.
