National president of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, has reiterated calls for active women’s involvement in nation-building.

The wife of the Inspector General of Police, who spoke at the 2025 National Convention of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) held in Lagos, tasked the nation’s leaders and stakeholders across the country to champion a renewed vision of empowerment, resilience, and transformational leadership among the wives and widows of police officers.

She emphasised that the annual convention serves not just as a reunion, but as an occasion for the continuous growth of its members.

She noted that POWA remains committed to alleviating the challenges faced by the wives, widows, orphans and children of police officers within the police community and the broader society.

With the theme, “Unlocking POWA Potentials and Transformational Leadership,” Mrs. Egbetokun charged members to harness their inner strength and embrace their roles as catalysts for societal change.

“Unlocking one’s potential is a journey that requires continuous self-improvement, growth, transformation, embracing challenges, and pushing beyond our comfort zones,” she stated.

While highlighting the association’s recent interventions, Mrs Egbetokun disclosed that under her leadership, over 3,000 women, widows, orphans, and physically challenged persons have benefited from empowerment programs across Nigeria.

According to her, Items distributed include sewing machines, grinding machines, ovens, wheelchairs, starter packs, and flood relief materials under her three-point agenda anchored on education for development, quality health care delivery, and a better life for all.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Bimbo Salu-Hundeyin described the theme as apt, relevant, and thought-provoking.

“POWA plays a transformative role in improving the socio-economic conditions of police families across Nigeria,” he said.
