Former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), has declared that the prayers of both Christians and Muslims have been very effective in keeping the country together.
IBB stated this yesterday when he received a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State chapter, who visited him on his 84th birthday.

He therefore called on religious bodies not to relent in their prayers for the continued existence of Nigeria.

IBB said, “I really appreciate you (CAN), for the prayers. I must tell you that the prayers of both faiths, the Christians and Muslims have been very effective and it is what is keeping the country.

“I urge you to maintain the relationship in the general interest of the country and the people of the country.”

He stressed the need for a more cordial relationship among the faithful of the two major religions in Nigeria.

“I want you to maintain the sustained relationship because it is very important for the betterment of our development as a country. And the unity and existence of the country lies in the hands of Christians and Muslims,” IBB added.

He thanked the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State chapter, for their visit and prayers.

The state chairman of CAN and Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Bishop Bulus Yohanna, represented by Rev. Joshua Markus, commended the former military president for his life, which he said has continued to be enriched by the love and admiration of everyone.

He said General Babangida’s remarkable vision and contributions resonate across various sectors, and prayed that the Almighty God would grant him good health and fulfilment in the years to come.
