The Global President of the Green World Association for Medicinal Plants, Dr. Amb. Ibrahim Dada Nakowa, has called for urgent action to conserve medicinal plants, emphasizing their critical role in addressing global health challenges.
Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, Dr. Nakowa highlighted the growing importance of medicinal plants as alternatives to orthodox medicine, which, in many cases, fail to address emerging health issues.
He described these plants as divine gifts essential for human well-being.
Decrying the alarming rate at which medicinal plants are disappearing due to overexploitation and unsustainable practices, Dr. Nakowa stressed the need for a collective effort to reverse the trend.
He urged individuals and communities to adopt practices such as planting and replanting medicinal plants to ensure their survival for future generations.
“As we promote the conservation and sustainable use of medicinal plants, we not only protect human health but also safeguard the environment,” he said.
Dr. Nakowa also encouraged the embrace of traditional medicine, which has been used for centuries to treat various ailments, noting that these natural remedies remain vital in the face of evolving health challenges.
He concluded by urging global stakeholders to prioritize the preservation of medicinal plants as part of efforts to enhance health, well-being, and environmental sustainability worldwide.
