The Presidency has explained that Central Bank Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 2025 Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington D.C., following the unavailability of the minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.
According to a statement by Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday, Cardoso, as the alternate governor for Nigeria at the Bretton Woods institutions, will represent the country at the high-level global financial meetings, which officially open on Monday, October 13.
The presidency noted that the finance minister, who ordinarily heads the delegation, could not attend due to indisposition, prompting Cardoso to assume the role in line with established protocol.
Also listed as part of Nigeria’s delegation is the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, who will join Cardoso in the country’s representation at the sessions.
The week-long meetings will feature major events such as the Development Committee Plenary on October 16 and the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) meetings on October 17.
According to the World Bank, other side activities will include regional briefings, press conferences, and discussions focused on international development, global economic stability, and financial markets.
