In a move aimed at bolstering the federal bureaucracy, President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of five new Permanent Secretaries to fill existing vacancies.

The Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) on Monday announced the appointment of the new permanent secretaries as a strategic step intended to strengthen leadership and enhance service delivery across key government ministries.

The newly appointed officials are: Ibrahim Abdulkarim Ozi from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); Ezemama John Chidiebere from Imo State; Garba Abdul Sule Usman representing the North Central geo-political zone; Mohammed Musa Ishiyaku from the North East geo-political zone; and Ukaire Binyerem Chigbowu representing the South-East geo-political zone.

According to a press release signed by the director of Information and Public Relations, OHCSF, Mrs Eno Olotu, the appointments followed a “rigorous and transparent selection process.”

The statement emphasised that the process was in keeping with the Tinubu administration’s pledge to entrench the principles of meritocracy, transparency, and professionalism within the federal Civil Service.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, was quoted praising the President for his “unwavering commitment” to these ideals.

She emphasised that the new appointments are a clear reflection of the administration’s dedication to building a competent and results-oriented public service that effectively addresses the needs of the Nigerian people.

“The new Permanent Secretaries bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their roles, which will further strengthen the delivery of Public Services and support the government’s development agenda,” the release stated.

The appointments are expected to fill critical leadership gaps and provide fresh impetus to the government’s implementation of its policies and programmes.

While congratulating the new appointees, the Head of Service expressed confidence that their expertise would be pivotal in driving efficiency and accountability within the federal civil service.

The specific ministries to which the Permanent Secretaries will be assigned were expected to be communicated in a subsequent announcement.
