Royal glamour met Hollywood star power in London on Tuesday as Prince William and Princess Catherine joined Tom Cruise, David Beckham and other familiar faces for the global premiere of Digger.
The Prince and Princess of Wales attended the Royal Film Performance at the ODEON Luxe Leicester Square, where the evening brought together members of the film industry, royalty and celebrity guests in support of The Film and TV Charity.
Catherine made a striking entrance in a floor-length purple gown by Jenny Packham, complemented by historic jewellery from the royal collection.
The Princess wore the Queen Mother’s Amethyst Sautoir Necklace, a piece given to Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon by Queen Alexandra as a wedding gift in 1923. The necklace later made a public appearance on the then Duchess of Cornwall at the London premiere of Skyfall in 2012.
Catherine also wore earrings that previously belonged to Diana, Princess of Wales, adding another con-nection to the royal family’s jewellery history.
William, meanwhile, opted for a double-breasted black velvet tuxedo jacket and bow tie — an outfit that caught the attention of Cruise, who greeted the Prince with, “great jacket”.
The Hollywood star and the royal couple were reunited four years after William and Catherine attended the London premiere of Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick in 2022.
This time, however, the evening included another notable reunion.
David Beckham attended the premiere with his sons Romeo and Cruz. The Beckhams posed alongside William and Catherine, while William and David were later seen chatting and laughing. Catherine also spoke with Romeo and Cruz during the evening.
Cruise later accompanied Catherine as she made her way down the cinema steps, holding her hand as they headed towards the screening.
The Waleses also met members of the Digger cast and creative team, including Riz Ahmed, John Good-man, Jesse Plemons, Emma D’Arcy and director Alejandro G. Iñárritu.
Directed by Iñárritu, Digger stars Cruise as a powerful man who embarks on a frantic mission to prove himself humanity’s saviour before a disaster he has unleashed destroys everything. The film also features Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg and Jesse Plemons.
The London premiere was also significant for the charity behind the event. Digger became the 73rd Royal Film Performance, with the occasion raising funds to support people working behind the scenes across Britain’s film, television and cinema industries.
With royalty, Hollywood and the Beckham family sharing the red carpet, the Digger premiere offered a memorable mix of cinema, celebrity and royal style — with Catherine’s purple Jenny Packham gown and historic jewels providing one of the evening’s most distinctive fashion moments.
