International businessman and philanthropist, Prince Tonye Princewill, has relocated to Rivers State to ascend the throne of the traditional ruler of Da Ogo community in Buguma, headquarters of Asari-Toru local government area of the state.

Princewill, the son of the late Amanyanabo of the Kalabari Kingdom, Prof. Theophilus Princewill, spent much of his life living and working in various parts of Nigeria and abroad.

The decision of the traditional ruler, who recently marked 50 days on the throne, to relocate permanently to Buguma signals a shift from international engagements to grassroots leadership and community service.

LEADERSHIP observed that the development marked a new phase of direct involvement in the affairs of his ancestral community.

It was further observed that since his return, Princewill had been engaging with the residents, particularly youths, adopting an open and accessible leadership style.

The businessman and philanthropist has emphasised presence and participation in daily community life rather than a purely ceremonial approach to traditional leadership.

Our Correspondent observed that beyond his traditional role, Princewill is also pursuing cultural and creative projects aimed at preserving Kalabari history and identity.

He is known for his work in the film industry, including serving as executive producer of the movie ’76, and is developing new projects focused on Nigerian and Kalabari heritage.

Princewill has stated that his priority as Paramount Chief is to contribute to the development of Buguma through initiatives in education, culture, and community empowerment, while strengthening the values and unity of the Kalabari people.
