The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Thursday urged commuters traversing Lagos roads to prioritise safety at all times.

Osiyemi, in a statement in Lagos, also appealed to drivers, particularly those navigating the newly rehabilitated Third Mainland Bridge, to adhere to the designated speed limit of 80 kilometre per hour.

“We should recognise the pivotal role of cooperation in safeguarding lives, and as such, compliance not only ensures personal safety but also protects other road users,” he said.

The commissioner restated the state government’s commitment to enforce the speed limit.

He urged passengers to also participate actively in fostering a culture of safety, by making it a duty to remind drivers to uphold the recommended speed regulations.

“Should any driver persist in flouting these essential guidelines, passengers are encouraged to promptly report such instances to the nearest Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) outpost.

“Commuters are urged to report speeding drivers to the following hotlines: 09020009000, 09020004000,” Osiyemi said.

The commissioner’s appeal comes in the wake of a tragic accident on the Third Mainland Bridge on Wednesday, which resulted in two passengers being plunged into the Lagoon. (NAN)
