Prof Badejo Bags Nelson Mandela Distinguished Africanist Award

The prestigious 2025 Nelson Mandela Distinguished Africanist Award has been conferred on Professor Babafemi Adesina Badejo in recognition of his commitment to African studies and his unwavering dedication to the service of the African people.

In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja, it was announced that the award was presented during the Annual Africa Conference at the University of Texas at Austin.

Named in honour of the late Nelson Mandela, this lifetime achievement award is granted to individuals who have demonstrated resilience, courage, and determination in the pursuit of African liberation, human rights, and outstanding leadership in public service.

Past recipients include Professor Bonny Ibhawoh of McMaster University, Canada (2018) and Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja (2024).

Professor Babafemi Badejo, a distinguished Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Chrisland University, Abeokuta, has built a remarkable career as a scholar, diplomat, and peacemaker.

His extensive research, publications, and policy engagements have shaped discussions on African governance, peace and development, and international relations. His work with the United Nations has also played a crucial role in peacebuilding across several African countries.
