As the property dispute among the children of late Ohinoyi of Ebira land, Alhajl Mohammad Sani Omolori, intensifies, one of the children, Alhaji Abass Sani Omolori, has told his siblings that they have deliberately turned blind eyes to the truth and justice in the ongoing dispute.

Abbas had written to Governor Usman Ododo and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, seeking their intervention.

According to him, the case in court against the injustice perpetuated by some family members has been suppressed by some “powerful” family members.

However, in a swift response signed by nine family members, they disagreed that the case of the aggrieved members of the family was being suppressed.

They warned aggrieved family members to approach the court and seek justice rather than tarnish the family name.

But Abbas, in a fresh reply, said their family name was built on ethical principles and not vices.

He said, “I am not surprised that some may remain blind to the truth. It is often said that the one whose pockets are full controls everything except for men of honour. I do not wish to jump to conclusions hastily, but I offer you this moment to reflect deeply.

“I grant you the benefit of the doubt, for I do not believe any of you would willingly nourish your body at the expense of your soul. I urge you to reconsider this matter with open minds and sincerity, for one day, we will all stand before Allah and be held accountable.

If your true intention is to protect the family’s image, you must first uphold the foundation of justice and mutual respect upon which the Omolori name was built.

“If your concern were genuinely for the family’s image, it should have been apparent when the younger generation presented their findings in 2021. When the investigation concluded and the accused was formally notified, he ignored the notification. Were you not kept informed of these developments?

“Or is your concept of family honour and peace so deeply intertwined with the subversion of justice?”

“When the Upaha Clan invited Ataba to address the issue on two separate occasions, he declined. Were you not troubled by his defiance and the potential consequences of such resistance? When the committee appointed by the Grand Qadi determined that Ataba should compensate the family, he refused, despite his prior commitment to accept whatever the committee decided. How did you interpret this?

“Are you not aware of the meeting between the committee and the head of our family, during which he presented his correspondence with Ataba regarding the 2021 issue? He urged Ataba to return the family’s rightful property and preserve the family’s honour, but Ataba refused. Earlier, he told Ataba that he had assisted these children so this issue would not have arisen.
