A former Senate president, Chief Adolphus Wabara, has expressed the hope that the proposed seaport by the Abia State government at Ukwa will transform the state into a major regional trade gateway.

Wabara stated this in a statement he issued in Umuahia, the state capital, after visiting Ariria International Market, Aba, describing Azumini Blue River very appropriate for the project

He noted that the proposed seaport would fast-track infrastructure development, improve logistics, create jobs and strengthen the economy of the South East region.

“If successfully realised, the project will undoubtedly open a new economic corridor for Abia State, decongest existing ports, attract massive investments, stimulate industrialisation,” the statement said.

He commended Governor Alex Otti for the ongoing transformation of the market, saying the market is now comparable to markets in London and other developed parts of the world.

‎

‎”Having visited the market, I must sincerely commend him for the remarkable transformation taking place in one of the most strategic commercial hubs in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.”

‎”What I saw was not just a facelift of a market, but a deliberate economic renaissance capable of restoring Aba’s pride as the industrial and commercial heartbeat of the South East.”

‎

‎Wabara who is the chairman, Board of Trustees Peoples Democratic Party, argued that good governance and performance should always be acknowledged irrespective of political differences.

‎

‎The Ukwa-born leader, observed that: “As an elder statesman, I believe that when leaders perform creditably, they deserve commendation irrespective of political affiliations.

‎

‎

‎”Governance should always be about the people and the collective progress of society, not partisan considerations,” added the former president of the Red Chamber.
