The Coalition of United Political Parties has urged  the police to prosecute suspects arrested in different parts of Enugu State ahead of today’s governorship election.

CUPP’s call was occasioned by the revelation  by the Labour Party guber candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, that some armed thugs brought in to disrupt the polls were nabbed by a combined team of security operatives.

Addressing journalists, chairman of the CUPP in Enugu State, Mr. Festus Okafor, said the matter must not be swept under the carpet.

Okafor, who commended the security agencies for bursting the ring, said more still needed to be done.

“May we commend the security agencies for the recent arrest of some of these thugs in different locations across the state.

“This goes far to vindicate our outcry for the past two weeks that the PDP was importing terror into the state. Our appeal to the security agencies is that it should not bow down to pressure.

“These political hoodlums must be prosecuted. Nobody, no matter how highly placed, should influence the law enforcement agencies into releasing these suspects back to the streets ahead of the elections.

“We are also aware that many of them are yet to be arrested. They are still hibernating in some locations provided for them by desperate politicians. Efforts must be made to secure the voting process in Enugu State,” CUPP said.

The group advised the people of Enugu State “not to yield to terror but to come out en-masse today and vote for candidates of their choice.
