The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has announced the immediate impeachment of its Bauchi State Chairman, Abdulrahman Yusuf Muazu, effective from May 24, 2026.
The development comes amid an internal crisis within the party following the defection of Senator Shehu Buba Umar to the PRP and his emergence as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Bauchi State election in a process reportedly led by Abdulrahman Yusuf Muazu.
Reading the party’s decision during a press conference at the NUJ Secretariat yesterday, Ahmed Mohammed Bello, the party’s secretary in Majidadi A Ward, said the action was taken pursuant to Article 6(a), 6(a)(ii), and 6(d) of the party’s constitution following the recommendations of the party’s disciplinary committee dated May 11, 2026.
According to him, the committee found Abdulrahman Yusuf Muazu guilty of acts of disobedience to the party’s executive committee and negligence in carrying out lawful directives of the party.
He alleged that the former chairman delegated responsibilities attached to his office to the National Publicity Secretary, actions the committee described as inconsistent with the duties of a state chairman and detrimental to party discipline and unity.
“In line with the constitution, Abdulrahman Yusuf Muazu is, with immediate effect, barred from representing the party in any official capacity, using the party’s name, insignia, or official materials, and making public statements on behalf of the party,” Bello stated.
He further disclosed that, following a unanimous decision of the executive committee, the party’s State Youth Leader, Tijjani Abubakar Aliyu, would oversee the interim leadership of the state chapter pending further arrangements.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to internal discipline, accountability, and due process as enshrined in its constitution, adding that all party organs and members should take note of the decision and act accordingly.
The PRP also maintained that all constitutional procedures and due process requirements were duly observed before the impeachment decision was reached.
Acting Chairman Tijjani Abubakar Aliyu assured members of his commitment to repositioning and strengthening the party in the state.
He also stated that the party had not accepted the nomination of candidates presented by certain factions within the party.
“We have had candidates for various positions for a long time, but we will not accept new entrants from the APC contesting under our platform without proper consultation with party leaders,” he said.
Aliyu added that consultations would soon commence to determine and ratify what he described as the legitimate candidates of the party.
