The group made the commitment in a statement signed by its general secretary, Nanjul Wuyep. It was made available to journalists in Abuja yesterday after a successful conclusion of its 2024 Annual National Convention and Election, in which its new leadership emerged.

The event, themed: “Innovation for Economic Growth; Technology and Entrepreneurship in Plateau State,” brought together members of the Plateau diaspora, distinguished guests, and community leaders to discuss pressing issues, elect new leadership, and honour outstanding achievements.

The event, which took place from Friday, September 27th to Sunday, September 29th, 2024, at the Fairfield Inn and Suites, Duluth, Georgia, also witnessed an award night.

Wuyep said: “With a renewed focus on development partnerships and economic growth, the association will continue to work closely with local and international stakeholders to support Plateau State’s advancement in key sectors such as technology, entrepreneurship, and education.

“The Association extends its gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and partners for making its 2024 Annual National Convention, Election, and Award Night a memorable success.

“We look forward to further collaboration and engagement as we work toward a brighter future for Plateau State.”

He said the association is committed to driving impactful change by leveraging the talents and resources of the diaspora group.

He stressed that the convention provided a platform for insightful discussions on innovation, technology and entrepreneurship as vital drivers of economic development in Plateau State.

“Keynote speakers included Dr. Jim Pam Wayas and Hon. Daniel Asama Ago, who shared their expertise on ways to foster sustainable economic growth through the engagement of both the diaspora and local communities,” he said.

According to Wuyep, a major highlight of the convention was the election of new leadership for the Plateau State Association, USA.

He said after a transparent and democratic process, Dr Barth Shepkong emerged as PSA-USA’s president, Lady Gertrude Longwan as vice president, Barrister Wuyep as general secretary, Mrs. Asabe Spencer-Mhya as treasurer and Mrs. Francisca Keyen as welfare secretary for the next two-year term.

“These leaders have pledged to uphold the values of the association, build upon its existing successes and chart new paths for continued engagement and collaboration with Plateau State,” the general secretary said.

He said the convention culminated with the highly anticipated award night, where members of the community and notable leaders were honoured for their outstanding contributions.

He said among the recipients were Mama Cecilia Sheni, who was conferred with the PSA-USA Lifetime Achievement Award; Retji Dakum, conferred with the PSA-USA Young Entrepreneur of the Year; and honourable Daniel Asama Ago, with the PSA-USA Community Service Award.

“These awards reflect the excellence, dedication, and innovation that are hallmarks of the Plateau diaspora and their commitment to the development of Plateau State,” he concluded
