Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has admitted uncertainty over the fitness of influential midfielder Vitinha ahead of their UEFA Champions League semi-final clash against Bayern Munich.
The Portuguese international is currently sidelined with a heel inflammation and will miss PSG’s Ligue 1 fixture against Nantes on Wednesday. His availability for next week’s first leg at the Parc des Princes remains in doubt.
“We will take a calm and measured approach,” Enrique said. “But at the moment, I do not know if he will be ready in time.”
Vitinha has been a central figure in PSG’s midfield this season, dictating tempo and linking play effectively. His potential absence would be a significant setback as the French champions prepare for one of their biggest matches of the campaign.
Should he fail to recover in time, Fabián Ruiz could step in. The Spaniard recently returned from a lengthy knee injury, making a brief appearance in the defeat to Lyon. However, Enrique cautioned that Ruiz is still regaining full fitness after three months on the sidelines.
“Fabián needs more minutes to recover his rhythm, but I am happy to have him back,” the coach added.
Enrique also called for improved performances from his squad, stressing that high standards must be maintained as PSG chase further success this season. Young prospect Ibrahim Mbaye was left out of the squad at the weekend, with the coach emphasising the importance of readiness and consistency.
A victory over Nantes would strengthen PSG’s position in the Ligue 1 title race, but attention is already firmly fixed on the looming European showdown, where squad fitness could prove decisive.
