Punish Vote Buyers, Electoral Offenders, CSOs Tell INEC

A coalition of Civil Society Organisations have urged the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) to punish vote buyers and electoral offenders in the just concluded general elections.

This was contained in their communique after a meeting of Civil Society Organisations, 2023 post election retreat with the theme monitoring and evaluation observation yesterday in Abuja.

According to them, INEC as an institution managing the electoral system should explain to Nigerians why the BVASs developed many faults. 

They also said INEC should explain why the results were not uploaded to the IREV.

The communique read “that INEC should also use her office to prosecute the electoral offenders.

“That INEC should establish a better relationship with Civil Society Organizations. That INEC should be more prepared for upcoming elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi States.

“That EFCC should also investigate those personalities involved in vote buying and inducement during election.

“That Federal Government should look into establishing a special court for election offenders.

They also asked the INEC to justify over the  N400 Billion of taxpayers money used for the just concluded elections.
