Quality Education: Yobe Distributes Over N1bn Instructional Materials To Primary, Secondary Schools

As part of measures towards revitalizing basic and secondary education, the Yobe State government has purchased and distributed over a billion naira teaching and learning materials to primary and junior secondary schools across the state.

The procurement of the instructional materials, which was also supported by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) was meant for primary and junior secondary schools in the 17 local government areas of the state.

Governor Mai Mala Buni has while flagging-off the distribution of the materials in Damaturu said the measure was part of his administration’s commitments towards revitalizing the education sector especially basic for a better future.

Buni, represented by the commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Muhamnad Sani Idriss, said the procurement and distribution of the instructional materials was to further support the government’s drive to revitalise basic education to provide a strong foundation for the development of education in Yobe state.

He expressed satisfaction with the improvement in the education sector, adding that Yobe has every reason to celebrate the impressive achievements recorded in the basic and secondary education in the state.

“The declaration of state of emergency on Basic and Secondary in 2019 was meant to revitalize the sector and I am happy that things are changing for the better owing to the impressive performance of the state’s students in the national examinations.

“The instructional materials purchased by the government through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and development partners were done to further consolidate on the achievements recorded so far for better progress,” the governor said.

He directed the Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) of the 17 local government areas to ensure effective utilisation of the items warning against diversion of the instructional materials adding that anyone found diverting the materials would face the wrath of the law.

He used the forum and called on the development partners, members of the community, civil society organisations, NGOs, PTAs, school based management committees and other stakeholders to support the government’s drive towards providing quality basic education.

Also, the acting chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Isa Shettima said the procurement of the instructional materials was part of the agency’s measures towards promoting quality in teaching and learning inline with policy directives of the state governor Hon Mai Mala Buni.

The items distributed include 5, 600 Cartons of Pencil HB, 5, 600 Cartons of Ball Point Pen, 5, 600 Cartons of Exercise Book A, 4, 800 Cartons of Plastic Ruler, 56, 000 Cartons of Branded School Bags (UNICEF), 5, 600 Cartons of Exercise Books 2A & 2C, 5, 000 Dozens of Exercise Book 2C, 1,000 Cartons of Chalks Different Colours, 8,000 Pieces of White Board, 500 and Pieces of Marker.

Others are 1, 600 Pieces of White Board Cleaner, 500 Cartons of Black Board Duster, 1000 Pieces of Slate, 800 Dozens of Pencils, 1000 Pieces of Class Register, 73, 000 Pieces of School Bag, 10, 200 Mats, 1145 Tablets, 300 Cartons of Mukaranta (Textbooks), 200 Cartons of Lissafi (Textbooks), 2, 600 Attendance Register, 2, 600 Centre File, 2, 600 Visitors Book, 330, 000 Certificates, 340, 000 Supplementary Reading Books as well as 130, 000 Enrolment Forms.
