A major exhibition celebrating the life and fashion legacy of Queen Elizabeth II has been extended for another six months after tickets for its initial run sold out within weeks.
The exhibition, titled ‘Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style’, opened in April around what would have been the late monarch’s 100th birthday. Hosted at the King’s Gallery beside Buckingham Palace, the showcase features the late Queen’s iconic outfits, hats, jewellery and accessories.
Originally scheduled to close on October 18, the exhibition will now run until April 18, 2027, following overwhelming public demand. Organisers estimate visitor numbers could reach 400,000, making it the most visited exhibition in the Royal Collection Trust’s history.
The exhibition includes more than 300 items from the Queen’s wardrobe and personal collection, with around half of the pieces displayed publicly for the first time. Highlights include never-before-seen childhood dresses, wedding jewellery, tiaras and the costume worn by her stunt double during the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony.
Caroline de Guitaut, curator of the exhibition, said the display offers visitors a deeper understanding of how fashion played a significant role in the Queen’s public image and duties throughout her reign.
Director of the Royal Collection, Tim Knox, described the response as “unprecedented,” adding that the extension would allow more people from around the world to experience the tribute to the late monarch’s life and legacy.
