Coalition of Arewa Forum in the South West of Nigeria has blamed the political crisis in Kano State on the struggle for political power in the northern part of the country by some politicians in realisation of their sec9nd term ambition.

Addressing members of the Arewa communities on behalf of the Coalition of Hausa Communities in South West who staged a peaceful protest at Cultural centre, Mokola in Ibadan, in solidarity with the governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, the vice chairman, Arewa Consultative Forum, Oyo State chapter, Alhaji Shehu Idris said the general feelings in the north was that politicians’ inordinate ambition for a second term in office was the cause of the crisis.

Idris, whose address was read by Alhaja Aisha Ismail said that independent minded leaders in the north were being dealt with “politically” ahead of 2027 general election.

It would be recalled that the Court of Appeal affirmed the judgment of the Kano State Election Petition Tribunal which overturned the victory of Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as duly elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

“The information reaching us on a daily basis is alarming. Our people in the various states in the north are mostly of the view that the government is working to suppress the north. Amongst other things they seem to be suppressing our leaders as stated above, and are also subverting the will of the majority of the northern electorates.

“This is clear from the election cases in Plateau, Zamfara, and Kano. As we all know, these three states are volatile states! The perceived daylight robbery and truncation of the will of the people through the courts might not be accepted by the people,’’ he said.
